Westlake High Schools Math/Science Magnet Program prepares students for the academic and career fields of math, science, engineering, and technology through rigorous instruction, relevant experiences and supportive relationships.

Magnet Programs of Study

Students select from three courses of study that have been modeled after the highest ranking college programs of study in these same areas.

    Medical Sciences                              Engineering                   Digital Media/Computer Science

Each course of study has associated extracurricular clubs and teams as well as junior and senior summer research internship opportunities available at Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition students attend monthly forums with guest speakers from college and industry on topics ranging from college planning to careers.


Colleges Attended and Recent Achievements

Students from the magnet program attend the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, Morehouse, Spelman, Princeton, Clemson, Georgetown, Xavier, North Carolina A & T, Yale and Georgia Tech as examples.

Recent achievements on regional, national, and international levels include:

  •  Engineers Without Borders Solar Engineering Project in Arusha, Tanzania (July 07)

  •  $100,000 Engineering Grant from the US Department of Transportation (September 07)

  • Regional 1st place Tri-Math-Alon Competition Award (November 07)

  • Engineers Without Borders International Pre-College Chapter Award (March 08)

  • National 1st place Tri-Math-Alon Competition Award (March 08)

  • Georgia Institute of Technology Educational Partnership Award (April 08)

  • $100,000 follow on Engineering Grant from US Dept. of Transportation (October 08)

  • Fulton County Proclamation of Westlake High School Engineers Without Borders Day (November 08)
